Upholstery Services

Do you own a piece of furniture that’s been in your family for years but has seen better days? Don’t throw it on the curb; let our upholstery experts give it a second chance. You’ll be amazed at what we can do with an old sofa or chair that you’re ready to give up on. You won’t find higher quality upholstery services in Fairfield.

Upholstery

Are truly custom pieces your style? If a chair or settee has been in your family for decades, it’s likely already unique compared to pieces made today. Add furniture reupholstery with fabric from our extensive library, and you have an item guaranteed to be one-of-a-kind. You may wonder if furniture upholstery services are worth it. We say, “Absolutely!” as long as you keep a few things in mind:

  • Does the piece have good bones? Furniture built years ago is much higher quality than most furniture manufactured today. A frame made of solid wood will stand up to reupholstery much better than a piece made with plywood and legs that screw on as opposed to being one solid piece. If the frame is in good shape, upholstery is a more eco-conscious route to take than purchasing new furniture.
  • What value does the furniture hold? Whether it’s a family heirloom or a piece you’re in love with, you should have a personal investment in the furnishing before you embark on furniture reupholstery services. However, we can breathe new life into anything with reupholstery, including chairs, sofas, ottomans, and dining room or kitchen seating.
  • Do you have a spot where the piece will look amazing in your home? An armchair in a cozy nook of your living room or a landing where your grandmother’s settee will look divine are great examples of pieces that deserve to be reupholstered.

Choosing a Fabric

The fabric’s thread count tells you how many threads are in a square inch. Higher thread counts provide more durable fabric, but the fabric you choose should consider the piece’s usage and your lifestyle.

  • For example, leather and cats go together like oil and water, but leather is a durable and easy-to-clean fabric otherwise.
  • Cotton is a natural fiber that naturally resists pilling and fading but can be prone to wrinkling and staining when it’s the sole fabric. For these reasons, we recommend a cotton blend on any piece that will see regular use, such as a loveseat in your living room.
  • Linen and silk are attractive options but are incredibly delicate and must be treated with care. These fabrics must also be professionally cleaned, so they’re better suited for adult-only areas of your home, like formal dining areas.
  • Do you love the look of wool but not the upkeep? Give acrylic a try. It resists wearing, wrinkling, and fading. The higher quality an acrylic material is, the less likely it is to pill.
  • Microfiber is another excellent choice for furnishings that will see heavy use. It’s resilient when it comes to stains and moisture but offers a soft, velvety texture.
  • Another synthetic option that stands up well to wear and tear is olefin. This ultra-durable fabric can withstand UV exposure, moisture, and abrasions while also being mildew resistant. If a perfect fabric exists, it just might be olefin.

More Than Just Fabric

Yes, fabric is a significant component of furniture upholstery services, but it’s not the only piece of the upholstery puzzle. Upholstery services cover all of the material that’s included on a sofa, including springs and padding. Reupholstering furniture is a specialized craft that requires finely tuned skills, and our artisans will work with the same passion for a piece that you feel for it.
